Unless Jussie Smollett can magically rise Johnnie Cochran from the dead and retain him as legal counsel, it looks like the former “Empire” actor is going to spend some time in the slammer.
Recall that in January of 2019, Smollett claimed that in the wee hours of the morning, on a well-below-freezing night in Chicago, two white fellas jumped him as he was walking home from a Subway sandwich shop. According to Smollett, those men beat him up, doused him in bleach, put a noose around his head, and yelled “this is MAGA country.” One of them even wore a MAGA hat, according to the actor.
It wasn’t Smollett’s best performance.
Do you know how many MAGA supporters there are in Chicago? Between zero and none. But we were supposed to believe that a couple of them were lying in wait with a rope and bleach, ready to pummel Smollett on his way home from grabbing a late-night sub? The premise was always absurd.
The body cam video of police entering Smollett’s apartment to investigate his claims is a further indicator of the absurity.
Not to mention, there was the problem of the brothers Osundairo, a pair of Nigerian twins who ran with Smollett’s crew. The actor was having a relationship with one of them, as he testified this week.
The Osundairo brothers were caught on video the night of the “attack,” purchasing supplies from a store. They bought ski masks, gloves, bandanas, sunglasses, and event that red “MAGA” hat.
What a coincidence!
To this day, Smollett still claims that he was the victim of a real hate crime.
But you shouldn’t just be enraged by the brazenness and patent absurdity of the hate hoax. Those happen all the time.
You should also be enraged by the way the media and your political overlords peddled Smollett’s lies, despite the fact that anyone with a room temperature IQ at least had serious questions about the validity of the claims. (Maybe that explains it).
Unlike you and I (smart people) they fell for Smollett’s bad acting hook, line and sinker.
Here’s what our esteemed media said:
MSNBC: We've got some breaking news. Actor and musician Jussie Smollett from the hit show Empire was attacked and beaten early this morning in Chicago and police say it could be a hate crime.
MSNBC: There are many indications of a hate crime here. … They are looking for two suspects who were apparently wearing Make America Great Again hats.
CBS: We have a media that's saying it's a debate whether or not what just happened to Jussie Smollett is a hate crime. It's absurd.
CNN: You know, Jussie Smollett had a noose on his neck just this week
ABC: The media has really cast so much doubt on his story, which I find so personally offensive that a gay Black man is targeted and then suddenly he becomes the victim of people's disbelief.
CNN: He said his attackers hurled racial and homophobic slurs at him. … This is America in 2019.
Remember, these are the people who lecture you about “dangerous propaganda.”
The media’s egregious response was rivaled only by our elected officials.
Here’s what Kamala Harris, the nation’s second-highest ranking official had to say in the wake of the fake attack:
When Smollett was arrested, she didn’t apologize. Instead, she condemned racism and homophobia:
Let’s check in on the third-highest ranking official in the country, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
"The racist, homophobic attack on @JussieSmollett is an affront to our humanity. No one should be attacked for who they are or whom they love,” she said in a now-deleted tweet. “I pray that Jussie has a speedy recovery & that justice is served. May we all committ [sic] to ending this hate once & for all."
Here’s what the bartender from Queens had to say:
That tweet is still live. It was never corrected.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), another blowhard who can’t go a day without inciting racial hatred, blamed you and I for the attack.
"The dangerous lies spewing from the right wing is killing & hurting our people,” she said in a now-deleted tweet.
Like Harris, Sen. Cory Booker also called the faked attack a “modern-day lynching:”
There are literally hundreds more examples.
The political left has a problem.
The demand for racism in America far outpaces the supply.
But they need racism, because absent the “social justice” platitudes, left-wing politicians would have nothing else to sell the American people. They would lose all their power without their “anti-racist” propaganda.
So would the media. So would academia.
Left-wing nonprofits would go broke without “racism.”
That’s why Black Lives Matter is dodging the issue of whether Smollett faked the crime, and instead is insisting that every criminal trial in America is inherently racist.
Here’s what that group had to say about the Smollett trial:
“As abolitionists, we approach situations of injustice with love and align ourselves with our community. Because we got us. So let’s be clear: we love everybody in our community. It’s not about a trial or a verdict decided in a white supremacist charade, it’s about how we treat our community when corrupt systems are working to devalue their lives. In an abolitionist society, this trial would not be taking place, and our communities would not have to fight and suffer to prove our worth. Instead, we find ourselves, once again, being forced to put our lives and our value in the hands of judges and juries operating in a system that is designed to oppress us, while continuing to face a corrupt and violent police department, which has proven time and again to have no respect for our lives.”
Make no mistake: a Smollett conviction will not end the parade of fake racism claims levied by the political left.
But it should at least serve as a warning. The faker the hate hoax, the less likely anyone is to fall for future hate crimes hoaxes. The cottage industry is going under. Smollett is the boy who cried MAGA.
And perhaps it will serve as a shot across the bow to anyone thinking of ginning up racial tension by pulling a Smollett: there will be consequences for your actions.
